A statue in honor of Earl Lloyd was voted to be accepted by the Alexandria City Council on July 7. Earl Lloyd was the first Black man to play in the National Basketball Association. The statue is set to be unveiled on Oct. 31 on the 70th anniversary of Lloyd’s first NBA game. Councilor Del Pepper said, "It is an extraordinary gift.
